Founder of The Masque and the man responsible for letting the LA punk scene shine. He provided a venue for X and the The Germs and The Plugz and Black Flag and The Minutemen and virtually any other important band in that time and place. He also brought hip hop to SoCal by booking Afrika Bambaataa and Ice-T before anyone else would. His deep affection for jazz was unabashed and he frequently signed his emails, "A Love Supreme."
His sudden and unexpected death at such a relatively young age (60) is not so much a blow to the scene (it was, after all, a long time ago) so much as a lost opportunity to say thank you for all his contributions.
RIP and thank you - Mr. Mullen
